A robot vacuum will keep your floors tidy enough to cut down on the frequency of manual hoovering. Select a vacuum that has good navigation, can clean stairs and corners, and that has a large bin that only needs to be emptied periodically.
There are models that mop and charge themselves this is an option essential for families with children or pets. The top performers in our tests have good obstacle avoidance.
1. Roomba iRobot i3+ from iRobot EVO
The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO are the same robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. The i3+ is an excellent alternative for those who want a an entirely automated, hands-free cleaning experience, but want to manually empty the dustbin of the robot when it is full.
Both robots are proficient at picking up surface dirt on hard floors and carpets and are able to move around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home that aid the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have obstacle avoidance capabilities like the i7+ or other top-rated robots we have tested. It could be stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between different surfaces like hardwood and rug.
iRobot recommends you clear out areas in which the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, including clearing out any toys or clutter it might encounter. It's also an excellent idea to keep the dust bin and filter clean so that they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+'s internal bin is full or the battery is empty, it returns to its docking station and automatically emptying its dirt into the station's external dustbin, and then continues cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's batteries last for about an hour and a half continuous use. It takes about three hours to fully recharge.
2. IRobot Roomba i7+
The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in iRobot's flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most important feature of all -- it comes with self-emptying bins that eliminate one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.
The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, a system that lets it create maps of rooms so that it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning tasks, and you can control your robot through the app or by voice.
The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also removed large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, is its self-emptying dustbin which removes a major source of maintenance and cuts down on recurring costs.
We were also awestruck by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services that we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning session and to move around the room and vacuum the area. Connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and easy with the iRobot Home app. When connected, we were able to use the i7+'s voice commands such as "Hey Alexa, vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options for managing the i7+'s settings and monitoring its performance.
3. Dyson Cyclone V10
In a world of vacuums that are cordless and feel like minivans or buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It's got the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum for most households, but it also fits nicely on the coffee table or shelves where you can move it around like an enchanted device.
The V10 is powered with a Lithium-ion battery with 7 cells of energy, which produces power without fading for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filter system removes allergens, and then releases cleaner air back into your home. The specially designed head utilizes stiff nylon bristles to drive deep into carpets and collect large particles or fine dust. It has three suction modes that can be adapted to the specific task. It quickly converts from handheld to floor vacuum, and then back to floor.
The model also comes with a dock that charges to 100% in 3.5 hours, and gives users an easy access to two attachments and a wand clip. This is a huge improvement over older Dysons that require a lengthy charge and are difficult to store.
The V10's main drawback is its limited running time. The claims of its marketing that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are misleading as CR's tests show. This is an average not an extraordinary run time for a battery-powered cordless vac. This is still enough to get rid of the majority of an average-sized house but not long enough to get every single area (though the second time around usually can be effective). This model has its own advantages, however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than earlier Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeably superior on low-pile floor carpet.
4. iRobot Roomba 694
One of the most well-known robot vacuums the 694 is an entry-level model that's a great choice for people who don't want to spend too much on a robot. It was able to remove all kinds of debris in our tests and would often go over the same area multiple times to ensure an extensive clean. Its flat front side helps to get into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice addition.
Its navigation system is smart and uses iAdapt to stay clear of obstacles and navigate your home, but it isn't equipped with the mapping capability of more advanced models like our top selections and the i3+ EVO and the j7+ series. It can get stuck on cords for phones or furniture that is low and will often run out of power before returning to its home base.
The Xiaomi Mi robot vacuum is superior to the Roomba 694 in all aspects because it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning and is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filter, has lower costs for recurring maintenance, has more advanced automation capabilities and is more efficient in moving itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and is charged faster.
The RoboVac X8 is a slick RoboVac X8 is superior to the Roomba 694 in most reasons, since it has a better battery life, the ability to change its suction power mode manually and comes with physical boundary strips, and is controlled by your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and is more effective on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+
Samsung is a name that is seen on a variety of home electronics It's no surprise that they're one of the most reputable mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Their Jet Bot AI+ is equipped with cutting-edge onboard technology to aid in navigation and obstacle avoidance.
The app offers a variety of options to personalize your robotic cleaner, such as virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization, docking frequency settings, and much more. It's easy to comprehend and easy to use, just as is the case with other Samsung devices.
In our tests during our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors, and removed 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller items such as socks or cords. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than other models that we tested, and this could be a deterrent for some buyers.
The smart vacuum comes with an onboard camera that can be accessed through the app. You can also set up a live stream from the robot's cleaning station. This feature lets you to monitor your pets or children while you are away. The filter and the dustbin can be cleaned to ensure the quick and easy cleaning. The Jet Bot AI+ comes with self-emptying clean stations, which helps keep the bin clean and maximizes suction power.
6. Black & Decker Robot Vacuum
Black and Decker robots have been designed specifically for flooring made of hard wood. They come with a wide cleaning path and an extra-large dustbin that holds 2X more debris than other models to keep the area free of debris for the longest period of time. They also have two side sweepers that can be used to clean around corners and edges. The POWERSERIES model includes AutoSense that automatically adjusts the power level based on whether it is picking up dirt on the surface or embedded dirt. The vacuum also has an app that allows you to view a virtual map, control functions, and create schedules. You can also track the status of the vacuum and then send it to its dock for charging with the click of a button. The app allows you to alter the LED lights on the top of the vacuum to determine where it is focused or if it has gotten stuck.
The app makes it possible to manually steer the robot, if necessary. My living room rug for instance has a dark-colored border that could cause trouble for other robots. The HRV 425BL however was able to continue to move across the border without ever registering the cliff. The ability to program a daily cleaning schedule for each week is a time-saving convenience.
